SGMW is a large mini vehicle manufacturer through the joint venture of Shanghai Automobile Industry Corporation (Group) (SAIC), General Motors (China) Co., Ltd(GM), and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co., Ltd., officially established on November 18th , 2002. Originally, it was Liuzhou power machining factory, which can be dated back to Y1958. In dozens of years, SGMW business and production volume are keeping expansion continuously, becoming an international and modern large joint venture locally.
SGMW covers 892,000 square meters, with modernized production workshops including press, paint, body and general assembly, which come into being the production layout of two products series: commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle. Based on the international resources, SGMW integrates the overall management system, and builds up core competitiveness, resulting in company’s production and sales volume increasing rate is much higher than the industry’s average growth year by year. In Y2002---the first year of joint venture set up, sales volume was 146,658, increased by 22% compared with Y2001; In 2003 and 2004, it reached 185,319 and 235,188, the increasing rate were 23% and 31% respectively; Y2005 was 337,188, which was sharply increased by 43%; in the past year, sales volume up to 460,115, among them, commercial vehicle was 420,140, 35% increasing rate compared with 2005; 37.3% market share, which enables SGMW to be the leader in the mini vehicle segment in the year.
Currently, SGMW has the state-level Technical Development Center and an “Enterprise postdoctoral research workstation” approved by the Ministry of Personnel of China. A group of specialists and professors were appointed as the technical consultants; implement the C3P（CAD/CAE/CAM/PDM）; Work with PATAC for product development integration program; adopt GM GVDP(global product development procedure) and GMS(Global Manufacturing System) as main tools. Currently, SGMW has five products portfolio including mini commercial vehicle, mini van, mini crew cab pick-up, mini single cab pick-up and mini car, totally about 200 products models. In 2003 all the products have successfully got “3C” certificate. In 2005, SGMW was awarded the “AAA” quality level company, which was the only company that got this honor in the mini vehicle industry. Our products have been exported to Southeast Asia, Middle East and South America, over 30 countries and they gain high popularity among domestic and overseas customers. The independently-developed product Wuling Sunshine becomes the fastest growing up mini vehicle through China mini-vehicle history; meanwhile, Spark has got the honor of “the most pretty mini car in the world”, also awarded as the best compact vehicle in J.D. Power survey. In 2006, SGMW was awarded “National Advanced enterprise for implementing excellent performance mode”.
As a joint venture, SGMW congregates resources of three partners, introduces advanced business concept and management system to push business process re-organization and leverage internal and external resources, to implement lean management on Purchasing system, manufacturing system, R&D system, sales system, human resource development system, and quality assurance system; company’s various management is improved a lot, and SGMW value chain is established.
