●Market launch of hybrid cars with self-owned brand in 2010
●Market launch of plug-in strong hybrid cars and all electric cars in 2012
Today Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (Group) (“SAIC Group” for short) held an oath-taking rally to accelerate the development of new energy vehicles. At the rally the targets were clearly set for the industrialization of SAIC’s new energy vehicles in 2010 and 2012, and the leading group was also announced so as to enhance the leadership’s sense of responsibility over the new energy vehicle development. Ai Baojun, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, attended the rally and delivered an important speech.
The world’s auto industry is now at an important period of technological transition, and it has been a common consensus of all sectors of society to develop and industrialize new energy vehicles. Amid the throe caused by the recently global financial crises, it has become all the more urgent to speed up the development of new energy vehicles, for which the market demand has been increasing continuously. Attaching high importance to the matter, recently the leaders of the municipal CPC Party Committee and the municipal government called a working conference on industrializing the hi-tech new energy vehicles. At the conference its was made clear to take the industrialization of the gas-electric hybrid vehicles and the high performance all electric vehicles as the main task to fulfill, and take the key parts like “battery + motor +electric control”, etc. as targets in which to make a breakthrough, so as to put in place as early as possible independent production systems and industrial clusters that are technically leading in China and competitive enough internationally. It was also required at the conference to enter into alliance with related sectors, strengthen the building of industrial chain and provide stronger policy support.
To implement the guideline of the meeting called by the municipal CPC Party Committee and the municipal government, and accelerate the buildup of enterprises’ capability for independent innovation, SAIC enhanced the awareness of urgency, united the strengths of all parties and go all out to seize the commanding heights of the auto industry development. At the oath-taking rally, the organizations of the leading group and the promotion group of SAIC’s new energy vehicle project were announced, so as to have the responsibilities more clearly assigned and the targeted milestones publicly known to all, i.e. in 2010 the SAIC-made Roewe 750 mild hybrid sedan will be launched in the market with a comprehensive fuel saving rate around 20%. In the meantime the task of providing new energy vehicles for the World Expo should be successfully fulfilled, namely, about 1,000 units of new energy vehicles out of four major series (all electric, ultracapacitor, fuel cell and hybrid) should be provided for the Expo operation; and in 2012, the Roewe 550 plug-in strong hybrid with a fuel saving rate over 50% will be put to the market, and the SAIC-made all electric car of self-owned brand will also go to the market in the same year, fulfilling the “zero emission” promise in the real sense. In addition, SAIC will actively push on with the industrialization of key parts of the new energy vehicles.
SAIC indicates that it is an unavoidable road SAIC must take to step up efforts at the development of new energy vehicles before it can achieve further development by leaps and bounds, keep its leadership in the Chinese market and even enhance its international competitiveness. By centering all its work on the “four imperatives”, i.e. it is imperative to “get a clear understanding of the situation”, “set clear targets”, “take urgent action” and “augment strengths”, SAIC will try its best to ensure the industrialization of new energy vehicles without fail!
