Jan 7, 2026

In 2025, China's automotive giant SAIC Motor achieved a remarkable milestone, selling 4.507 million vehicles — a 12.3 percent increase year-on-year — demonstrating the success of its comprehensive reform strategies.

Terminal retail sales reached 4.67 million vehicles, solidifying SAIC Motor's leading position in the domestic automotive industry.

The company focused on developing its self-owned brands and breaking new ground in intelligent electric technology, which accelerated its innovative transformation.

Strong performance in complete vehicle segment

SAIC Motor's integrated management of its passenger and commercial vehicle businesses under its self-owned brands has led to a more flexible and efficient operational system, better aligning product R&D, production, and marketing with customer needs.

In 2025, sales of SAIC Motor's self-owned brands, including ROEWE, MG, IM, MAXUS, Wuling, and Baojun, reached 2.928 million units, up 21.6 percent from the previous year. These brands accounted for 65 percent of the company's total sales, marking a 5-percentage-point increase from 2024. This performance underscores the pivotal role of SAIC Motor's self-owned brands in its innovation-driven growth.

Meanwhile, SAIC Motor's joint venture brands also underwent a significant transformation.

In April 2025, SAIC-GM's Buick marque revealed its new energy sub-brand Electra and introduced the all-new Buick "Xiao Yao" Super Flexible Architecture.

This architecture supports multiple vehicle forms and energy technologies, catering to diverse future product demands. It supports three vehicle body types – MPVs, SUVs, and sedans – as well as three NEV powertrains: battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and range-extended electric. It also accommodates front, rear, and all-wheel drive configurations.

In September, SAIC Audi launched its first mass-produced model, the Audi E5 Sportback, a luxury electric vehicle that combines Audi's iconic design with top-tier Chinese intelligent electric technology, offering superior performance and quality.

Technological innovations cater to customer needs

SAIC Motor is accelerating the commercialization of industry-leading intelligent electric technologies, including solid-state batteries, digital chassis, DMH super hybrids, Stellar super range extenders, and "end-to-end" intelligent driving models, to enhance travel safety, comfort, and convenience.

In 2025, SAIC Motor's NEV sales hit a record 1.643 million units, a 33.1 percent increase year-on-year, positioning the company among the industry's top players.

The new MG4 semi-solid AnXin version, the only semi-solid battery model currently in mass production, offers safety over 20 percent above industry standards.

The IM Digital Chassis, with its third-generation central integrated electronic and electrical architecture, offers a "super rear-wheel drive that can perform like an all-wheel drive", with a turning radius as low as 4.79 meters, enabling the new-generation IM LS6 to combine the spaciousness of a large car with the agility of a small one.

The ROEWE M7 DMH, featuring the DMH 6.0 super hybrid system, achieves a CLTC pure electric range of 160 kilometers and a total range of 2,050 km, with energy consumption as low as 2L.

The IM LS9, with its Stellar super range extender, boasts a class-leading range of 1,508 km, addressing major user concerns about limited range and inconvenient charging.

The IMAD3.0 intelligent driving assistance system, based on end-to-end large models, offers nationwide "Map less NOA" functionality and a unique "One-click AI chauffeur", making driving more effortless and enjoyable.

Cross-industry collaboration for mutual success

SAIC Motor is committed to fostering partnerships in its development. Collaborations with Huawei, Momenta, Horizon Robotics, OPPO, and Doubao are creating a new intelligent mobility ecosystem, accelerating the application of world-leading technologies.

In 2025, SAIC Motor and Huawei launched the "SHANGJIE" brand, featuring Huawei's smart mobility solutions and offering consumers durable, safe, and reliable vehicles. The first product, SAIC SHANGJIE H5, achieved monthly sales of over 10,000 units.

The partnership with OPPO introduced the "Phone-Car Connectivity" smart cockpit, seamlessly integrating digital life into vehicles. The versatile smart connectivity features support Huawei, Apple, and Android systems, allowing users to adapt quickly. From pre-entry vehicle preparation to post-exit locking, the connectivity features provide a seamless user experience.

The collaboration with Doubao has introduced an AI vehicle system with advanced interactive capabilities, offering users a new human-machine experience that can reason, think, and understand emotions.

Enhancing overseas operations

SAIC Motor launched Overseas Strategy 3.0 — the Glocal Strategy ("Global + Local") — in 2025, focusing on building localized systems and global automotive brands.

Last year's overseas sales reached 1.071 million units, a 3.1 percent increase year-on-year, maintaining a leading position in the industry.

In Europe, MG sold over 300,000 units, a nearly 30 percent year-on-year increase, bringing its cumulative sales to nearly one million. In India, MG sales reached 70,000 units, a 17.8 percent year-on-year increase, while in Thailand, sales grew by 13.3 percent year-on-year to 29,000 units.

SAIC Motor's overseas layout now includes one "300,000-unit" market (Europe) and five "50,000-unit" markets (Americas, Middle East, Australasia, ASEAN, and South Asia), with products and services spanning over 170 countries and regions and cumulative overseas sales exceeding 6 million units.

Looking ahead to 2026

In 2026, SAIC Motor plans to further deepen reforms, focusing on intelligent and electric development, to sustain its growth and pursue high-quality development.
