SAIC Motor achieves top industry sales in September

Automobile giant SAIC Motor recorded wholesale deliveries of 440,000 vehicles in September, up 40.4 percent year-on-year and 21 percent month-on-month, ranking first in China's auto industry.

From January to September, cumulative wholesale deliveries rose to 3.193 million units, a 20.5 percent increase compared to the previous year. Retail sales also increased, reaching 3.378 million units and indicating nine months of continuous growth.

The company's growth momentum was mainly driven by its "three engines": self-owned brands, new energy vehicles and overseas markets.

Strong performance of self-owned brands

Self-owned brands maintained strong momentum in September, with sales reaching 294,000 units, a 50.4 percent increase year-on-year.

Cumulative sales from January to September reached 2.044 million units, reflecting a 29.2 percent year-on-year growth. This accounted for 64 percent of the overall sales, which is 4.3 percentage points higher than the same period last year. SAIC Motor Passenger Car Company sold 94,000 units in August, up 72.4 percent year-on-year, with domestic market sales surging 245.3 percent year-on-year. SAIC Maxus sold 21,000 units, up 35.8 percent year-on-year, while SAIC-GM-Wuling delivered 158,000 units, up 43.9 percent year-on-year.

Recent product launches — including IM LS6, MG4, Shangjie H5 and Roewe M7 DMH — have further fueled market demand.

Rapid growth in the NEV segment

NEV sales set a new record in September at nearly 190,000 units, up 46.5 percent year-on-year and 46 percent month-on-month.

From January to September, cumulative NEV sales reached 1.083 million units, marking a 44.8 percent year-on-year growth. IM Motors sold 11,000 vehicles in September, a 77 percent increase compared to last year, with the new IM LS6 topping 10,000 pre-orders within 27 minutes of its launch. SAIC Motor Passenger Car Company achieved sales of 41,000 units, a 324.5 percent increase year-on-year. SAIC Maxus delivered over 7,000 NEVs, reflecting a 119.6 percent year-on-year increase. SAIC-GM sold more than 10,000 units, an 82.3 percent rise year-on-year, driven by models like the Buick Electra L7. Meanwhile, SAIC-GM-Wuling's sales totaled 106,000 units, a 22.7 percent increase from the previous year.

Overseas business remains stable

Overseas sales continued steady growth. September exports reached 101,000 units, up 12.2 percent year-on-year.

From January to September, cumulative overseas sales reached 765,000 units, reflecting a 3.5 percent increase compared to the previous year. The MG brand sold over 220,000 units in Europe, maintaining double-digit growth. From January to August, cumulative MG sales in the United Kingdom exceeded 50,000 units with a 4 percent market share; in Spain, the sales rose 58 percent year-on-year; in Italy, the sales exceeded 35,000 units, a 33 percent year-on-year increase; in Germany, the sales topped 15,000 units, with August sales surging 260 percent year-on-year.
