SAIC Motor kicks off 2026 with robust sales growth
SAIC Motor has released its January sales data, marking a strong start to 2026 after a significant surge following last year's double-digit growth in vehicle sales. In January, SAIC Motor achieved wholesale vehicle sales of 327,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 23.9 percent, and retail sales of 363,000 units. Both wholesale and retail sales volumes led the domestic automotive industry.
Self-owned brands played a pivotal role. In January, sales of SAIC Motor's self-owned brands reached 214,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 39.6 percent, accounting for 65.3 percent of the company's total sales, up 7.3 percentage points from the same period last year. SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle sold 77,000 units, an increase of 53.8 percent year-on-year; MAXUS sold 18,000 units, up 18.2 percent; and Wuling sold 105,000 units, a rise of 37 percent.
NEVs gained momentum. In January, SAIC Motor's NEV sales reached 85,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 39.7 percent, ranking among the top in the industry. IM saw a 66 percent year-on-year increase in January sales. The IM LS9 Hyper, the industry's first mass-produced SUV with all-wheel steer-by-wire technology, released official images and partial vehicle information, quickly sparking market interest. SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle sold 28,000 NEVs, up 576.9 percent year-on-year; MAXUS sold 4,000 NEVs, up 24.6 percent; SAIC-GM sold 6,000 NEVs, up 316.1 percent; and Wuling sold 36,000 NEVs, with the newly launched Starlight 560, a versatile, spacious SUV, receiving a surge of orders.
Overseas markets saw accelerated growth. In January, SAIC Motor's overseas sales reached 105,000 units, a 51.7 percent year-on-year increase, ranking among the top in the industry.MG, the top-selling self-owned brand in Europe for 11 consecutive years, delivered nearly 26,000 units in Europe in January, a year-on-year increase of about 15 percent. It ranked second in monthly sales in the UK automotive market last December.
